October 30th 2025

On 15 October 2025, GI WACAF took part in the SIREN training programme aboard the amphibious helicopter carrier Tonnerre. This embarked academy for maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea was conducted by the French Navy and the Yaoundé Architecture. The initiative aimed to strengthen the maritime capacities of Gulf of Guinea countries through an intensive programme of training and regional cooperation

Since 1 September 2025, thirty-six officers from twenty nationalities across the Gulf of Guinea and the Mediterranean had been participating in the SIREN25 programme on board the Tonnerre. Over six weeks, they enhanced their skills in crisis management and State action at sea in a region of key strategic importance for maritime security and environmental protection.

As part of the programme, GI WACAF led a large-scale at-sea oil spill simulation exercise, allowing trainees to apply their newly acquired knowledge in marine pollution response.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit the TotalEnergies Congo industrial base in Pointe-Noire, where company teams presented their operational systems and strategy for responding to marine pollution incidents.

GI WACAF extended its sincere thanks to the Government of the Republic of the Congo, the Atlantic Maritime Area Command (CECLANT), the Yaoundé Architecture, as well as to TotalEnergies Congo, Perenco, and Trident Energy for their support and commitment to strengthening maritime security and regional preparedness for marine pollution response.
