Objectives

In this first session, 3 experts from leading institutions (International Maritime Organization, ITOPF, and OSRL) will provide an introduction to oil spill preparedness and response (risk and sources of oil spills, potential impacts, possible mitigation measures) and present the critical role of technical cooperation and the work of the Global Initiative.

At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Understand what the risk sources are;
  • Understand what the potential impacts (economic, social and environmental) of an oil spill are;
  • Understand what actions could be taken to prevent and mitigate that risk (i.e. prevention; preparedness and response; compensation);
  • Understand the critical role of technical cooperation and of the GI
