The GI WACAF Regional Conference will be organised in Accra, Ghana, on 16-19 November 2015, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency of Ghana.
The GI WACAF Regional Conference 2015 is the sixth biennial event of its kind to be organised since the launch of the GI WACAF Project. The previous conferences were held in Gabon (2006), Congo (2007), Cameroon (2009), Nigeria (2011) and Namibia (2013).
The Conference will gather the main industry and government stakeholders from the countries in the region.
The objectives are to:
- raise awareness on oil spill preparedness and response issues with an emphasis on the challenges in the region;
- facilitate information sharing and lessons learned;
- review the progress achieved since the last Regional Conference; and
- determine priority actions for the coming biennium 2016-2017 to strengthen oil spill response capability in the region.
This event is a unique opportunity for the countries of the region in their endeavour to strengthen their preparedness and response systems. In addition, it will gather a panel of international experts to facilitate the technical discussions. The delegates will also be able to present their activities and the progress achieved since the inception of the Project.
