Objectives

In light of the current Coronavirus pandemic, it was decided to postpone until further notice the sub-regional workshop on the ratification and effective implementation of IMO conventions relating to oil pollution and liability and compensation that was supposed to take place in Accra, Ghana, from 27 to 30 April 2020, in the interest of the health and safety of participants, experts and host-country. However, GI WACAF remains committed to supporting the countries invited to the Ghana workshop, and is supporting the four (4) countries that volunteered for a remote review of their relevant national implementation texts followed by a national online debriefing on the legislation review.

This page is dedicated to remote assistance provided to The Gambia.

The overall objective of the activity remains the same, which is to assist policy makers, legislative advisers and/or drafters, responsible for the implementation of IMO conventions into their domestic legislation in understanding the objectives, principles and legal implications of relevant IMO instruments (relevant IMO Conventions, i.e. OPRC 1990, CLC and FUND 1992, with a particular focus on the Bunkers Convention), and to guide them on legislative mechanisms that should be applied when developing and updating national laws.
