Objectives

National authorities in Senegal are currently updating and improving their national preparedness and response system in view of the rapid development of offshore oil and gas activities. In this framework, the leading authority in Senegal in preparedness and response aspects (HASSMAR) followed recommendations made by GI WACAF following the SAMAREX 2019 deployment exercise held in Dakar (cf. the activity report drafted by GI WACAF). These recommendations highlighted the need for Senegal to strengthen its at-sea response / shoreline response interface and to develop a national shoreline response plan.

HASSMAR relied on national expertise to develop such a plan and sent a request to GI WACAF to support the final development stages of this shoreline response plan by providing specific comments; including on the integration of the draft shoreline plan with the at-sea national contingency plan.

Outcomes: review provided by GI WACAF and international experts. Overview of the analysis as well as recommendations provided during a national workshop dedicated to the finalization of this plan, which was held on 24-26 August 2021.
